We Love the 90's

Boyfriend jeans, flannel, and plaid? Yes, please!

It's as if fashion is just cycling through the decades, one by one.

1960s style micro-minis, bright prints and shift dresses were everywhere just a few years ago, along with pixie hair cuts and oversized “Jackie-O” glasses.  Then it was 70's boho. We’re still reeling from the 1980s revival with its skinny jeans, fingerless gloves and bright, neon colors.

No sooner did style setters slip into 80's vibe then the paradigm shifted again. Today, it's all about the 90's: destroyed boyfriend jeans, loose and easy tees, a touch of rocker chic, and of course, lots of flannel plaid.

The favorite fabric is in heavy rotation, from traditional button-up tops to slim and strapless dresses. It’s anchored with dusty vintage moto boots and of course, sneakers, the more well-worn, the better.

Loving the look? Tap a simple plaid top with tiny shorts and skinny jeans or cuff tattered oversized jeans with a basic tank. San Francisco designers, Distilled Clothing should have just the right plaid and flannel shirts. They also carry lovely plaid scarves.

It’s important to wear some feminine jewelry so that the grunginess is balanced. We’re big fans of Meggie White’s jewelry store, Meggie Jewelry, in Union Square for handmade baubles, or you can check out San Francisco jewelry line Ach Ach Liebling, designed by Joanna Petrone for whimsical, vintage feel.

Luckily, San Francisco is quite comfortable with this 90's trend. We've never stopped sporting our flannel, emo glasses, and Docs!
