The CHP opened one lane at about 6 a.m. but traffic is backed up and is building as the morning commute gets under way.
A fatal motorcycle accident in San Jose closed several lanes of northbound state Highway 87 just south of Curtner Avenue early Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash happened just after 4 a.m. and might have involved two other vehicles. All lanes were closed for about an hour and traffic was being diverted off the freeway and re-routed through Almaden. Drivers accessed points north of Curtner Avenue by taking Capitol Expressway to Almaden Expressway, before taking Curtner Avenue east and re-entering Highway 87 north.
The CHP reopened all lanes at about 7 a.m.
