Court's over, and the surf is up for the founder of the Maverick's big wave competition. And only him.
Jeff Clark, who originated the big wave competition near Half Moon Bay, filed suit against Mavericks Surf Ventures in January 2010, alleging that the company, which fired him in 2009, had publicly smeared him, failed to pay him wages, and otherwise totally harshed their contractual agreement in an effort to seize control of the surf contest.
A San Francisco Superior Court judge agreed, according to the San Francisco Examiner.
A judge ruled July 14 that Mavericks Surf Ventures must pay Clark $625,000, in payments strung out through 2017.
Clark, who owns Maverick's Surf Shop, said in June that he plans to apply for a permit to operate the contest next year, after a competing company owned by Clark's ex-wife failed to get the surf-fest off the ground this year.
The big wave competition was most recently held in 2010.
