Hot Holiday Forecast

From record breaking rain to the forthcoming 'reign' of high pressure, if you're living in our inland valleys especially East Bay and South Bay, you're definitely going to be noticing the temperatures jumping upward for the weekend. We're expecting the marine layer to squish down near 500-1000 feet which should still allow for a little bit of cooling into the inner bay and peninsula areas however inland spots will see mainly 90s. Areas well inland near the Tri-Valley and south of San Jose could near 100 later in the weekend. By the middle of next week, the sea breeze should trend a little stronger but the pattern of 80s and 90s inland may hang on beyond the end of the current 7 day forecast. One item to watch: remnant moisture from former Tropical Storm Arlene. Its nothing more than an area of low pressure at this point tracking westward across Mexico at present, however its likely we'll see some mid/high level moisture streaming in our way later Tuesday. This will need to be watched for possible lightning strikes aka "dry lightning" especially for areas south of Yosemite next week. - Rob Mayeda
