More Red Carpets Ahead for Facebook Movie

Social Network is on a roll.

The blockbuster movie "The Social Network" continued to get Hollywood honors Tuesday with the announcement of Academy Award nominees.

"The Social Network," the somewhat loose story of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's rise to wealth, fame and power, got eight nominations.   The movie will be a favorite for Best Picture after winning four Golden Globe awards earlier this month.

"The Social Network" is up for:

  1. Best Picture
  2. Best Director (David Fincher)
  3. Best Actor (Jesse Eisenberg),
  4. Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin)
  5. Original Score (Trent Reznor)
  6. Cinematography
  7. Film Editing
  8. Sound Mixing

Aaron Sorkin said of the nominations, "I love the way audiences responded to this movie. They came out and saw it and they loved it. It's a special cherry on top."

Bay Area resident and the focus of the film Mark Zuckerberg has remained publicly silent on the movie and its success. Zuckerberg told Oprah that he only wished he had met that many girls and attended that many parties, during an appearance on her show last fall.  Zuckerberg also reportedly took fellow Facebook employees to a screening when it was first released.
