Restaurant With a View Calls It Quits

San Francisco's Carnelian Room set to close after 40 years in business

The 40-year-old Carnelian Room will shutter, but oddly enough, not until Christmas (attention much?).

Before blaming the economy and the struggles of fine dining, perhaps everyone should note that the Carnelian Room has long been a ghost town and as seen by menu items like cherry reductions and crab towers, it struggled to exit the '90s, cuisine-wise.
However, restaurant operators still blamed the closure on people spending less on fine dining.

"We arrived at this difficult business decision after considerable discussion," says David Freireich, spokesman for Aramark, the restaurant's operator, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's provided guests and employees with countless memories, and we intend to both honor and celebrate the longevity and rich history of the restaurant prior to its closure."

Still, those views (not to mention event spaces) don't come along too often, so someone is bound to give it another life. Keller? Mina? Phan? We're looking at you, sirs.
