Grand Openings: Where to Eat and Drink Across the Country

NEW YORK

Mile End Sandwich
53 Bond St / Noho
Opened: April 30

Mile End is the second restaurant opened by husband and wife Noah and Rae Bernamoff which is in many ways similar to their first delicatessen in Boerum Hill. Mile End offers delicious sandwiches, soups and salads, with an added twist, such as their famous smoked meat sandwich or their pickled veal tongue and raisin marmalade on pumpernickel bread. However, don't plan on picking your feet up and relaxing at this place; it is counter service only, so you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like if you don't mind eating your huge sandwich standing up.

PHILADELPHIA

Blue Belly BBQ
600 Catharine St / Queen Village
Opening: Mid June

Chef Gene Giuffi is planning on opening this little gem by next month. Giuffi first planned on preparing an extensive menu offering over 30 items to choose from, but decided upon minimizing the number of items and offering a condensed menu made up of various meats, such as pulled pork and lamb neck. They are presenting a very laid-back attitude toward their second restaurant. In response to what kind of barbecue Blue Belly will offer, Giuffi responded, " So, since we can try anything, we're going to do it all. See what sticks and what doesn't".

LOS ANGELES

Gusto
8432 W 3rd St / Mid-City
Opened: May 1

This "Free-Range Italian" restaurant is located in the former home of Allora Cucina Italiana, with owner and chef Vic Casanova. This simple italian joint may be small but its menu is everything but... offering insanely delicious entrees such as braised baby octopus, duck liver, and pork shoulder braise in tomato sauce. Along with these delicacies are traditional handmade pastas and perfectly crafted pizzas.

WASHINGTON D.C.

Stachowski Market and Deli
1425 28th St / Georgetown
Opened: April 28

This quaint market and deli offers collectively cold cooked meats that were once sold only at the farmer's markets. They offer juicy sandwiches and hand-carved meats which they thoughtfully write up on a pig-shaped chalkboard above a display of pork loin chop, skirt steak mignon, short ribs, and duck prosciutto. Taking a slow start to their opening, the little market is still filling their meat shelves with products but aspire to soon have indoor seating and prepared meals to offer their customers in a hurry to pick up some dinner.

BOSTON

Happy Bar + Kitchen
1363 Boylston St / Fenway
Opened: May 2nd

This restaurant and bar will be separated by a wall covered in graffiti that will divide the bar and lounge from the deli and restaurant area. The bright and colorful space will have shiny tin ceilings along with a chandelier made out of spoons and cups, even more exciting is the entire wall covered in bottle caps. This thrilling place will offer modern American meals including alcoholic milkshakes!
