Some seven years after its first ill-fated adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time," the Mouse is giving it another go.
Disney's first attempt at bringing "Wrinkle" to life resulted in a 128-minute saga that inspired this exchange between Newsweek and the book's author, Madeleine L'Engle:
NEWSWEEK: So you've seen the movie?
Madeleine L'Engle: I've glimpsed it.
And did it meet expectations?
Oh, yes. I expected it to be bad, and it is.
A glimpse at the trailer, preserved presumably as a cautionary tale at IMDB, is 60 seconds of squirm-inducing low-production quality tripe. Which is a shame, because the book is a ripping good yarn that deserves a much better fate.
L'Engle's original tale, which spawned four more chapters of the "Time" series, tells the story of Meg Murry, a young girl who must travel across the universe to find her father, a brilliant physicist who has apparently fallen through a wormhole, or "tesseract," into the fifth dimension.
Jeff Stockwell, who wrote "Bridge to Terabithia" and "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys," is working on the script.
