Barry Levinson Stepping in to Helm “Gotti”

The "Gotti: Three Generations" rollercoaster continues.

After holding a New York press conference to announce the casting of John Travolta as John Gotti, Joe Pesci as Angelo Ruggiero, Nick Cassavetes as director, and to tease the "maybe/maybe not" casting of Lindsay Lohan (who showed up anyway), the proposed biopic "Gotti: Three Generations" appeared to be coming apart at the pin-striped seams.

The biggest blow appeared to be the abrupt exit of Cassavetes - but producer Marc Fiore insisted the project would move forward. And it has. And it's just hired Barry Levinson, according to Variety.

The director, best known for films like "Diner," "Rain Man," "Good Morning, Vietnam," and "Bugsy" certainly brings prestige to the film that many (cough cough) suspected would never see the light of day.

Filming is expected to begin in the fall.
