“Super,” Starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, Gets a Deal

Writer-director James Gunn's low-budget, high-profile hero flick "Super" will be coming to a theater near you after all.

"Super," starring Rainn Wilson as a regular guy pushed into a life of crime-frighting when his wife is stolen from him by a drug kingpin, has been picked up by IFC Films, which will be releasing the film under its IFC Midnight banner.

Here's the synopsis from the press release announcing the deal:

In Super, Frank’s (Rainn Wilson) wife leaves him for a seductive, psychopathic drug dealer (Kevin Bacon), Frank is transformed and the Crimson Bolt is born. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie (Ellen Page), the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife (Liv Tyler). The rules were written a long time ago: You are not supposed to molest children, cut lines or key cars; if you do, prepare to face the wrath of the Crimson Bolt!

Yes, it's hard to ignore the similarities to "Kick-Ass" (or "Defendor," for that matter), but judging from the new profanity-laced clip (below) that was recently hit the tubes, the tone is decidedly darker.
