1 Million Pick AT&T for iPhone 4S Carrier

Verizon and Sprint may now have their hands on the iPhone and T-Mobile users may even discover the backdoor way to activate Apple's smartphone on its network but no carrier has as much experience with Steve Jobs' wonder device as much as AT&T.

For all the negative press that the national carrier has taken from iPhone users, it announced Thursday that it still activated more than one million iPhone 4S units since the phone went live last week.

Four million were sold total across all carriers last weekend alone.

"It’s no surprise that customers are clamoring for iPhone 4S and they want it to run on a network that lets them download twice as fast as competitors,'" AT&T President and CEO of Mobility & Consumer Markets, Ralph de la Vega, said in a statement.

AT&T said it was the company's most successful iPhone launch yet. But that's no surprise given that it has been Apple's best-selling iPhone so far. The smartphone's other two carriers had banner sales.

But what is perhaps surprising is that despite all the negative publicity AT&T gets for frustrated iPhone users, the network was able to retain close to 25 percent of the early iPhone 4S sales. But it took AT&T almost a week to reach the one million mark.
