A General Electric-owned company is suing Apple alleging that its popular iTunes platform violated its patent rights.
SightSound Technologies is seeking an undisclosed amount of damages for Apple allegedly infringing on three patents relating to transmitting video and audio over the Internet.
GE, which owns a share of NBC Universal, owns 50 percent of SightSound Technologies.
Apple uses iTunes to sell music, movies and television shows and it also allows users to play back the media on the platform.
Sightsound said in its filing that it obtained the patents in question between 1993 and 1999.
iTunes was first launched in 2001.
Apple filed a counterclaim against SightSound denying the allegations.
