Apple Shipping $399 iPad Mini

Apple is now shipping its $399 iPad mini with Retina display to gain some traction in the during the busy holiday shopping season.

While sales growth has slowed for the iPad, undoubtedly Apple is hoping that consumers were only waiting for better and diverse models, according to Bloomberg News. Despite the slowing sales, down from 14.6 million in the second quarter to 14.1 million in the third quarter,  the iPad is Apple's biggest moneymaker aside from its iPhone.

Right now Apple is competing with rival Android computer tablets from Samsung and Amazon which seem to be evolving weekly.Still, Apple is optimistic about its new products.

“The response to iPad Air has been incredible, and we’re excited for customers to experience the new iPad mini with Retina display,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing said Tuesday.

That said, the $399 iPad mini is the cheaper model, since the 128GB iPad mini will fetch $829. It's also about $70 more than last year's model, but the new Retina display offers high definition viewing.

We're not sure the new iPads will be Apple's saving grace this holiday season, but at least the company rectified the high-definition issue in its iPad mini.  For those consumers with an older-generation iPad, it could be a decent replacement gift, but for those with older eyes, smaller may not mean better visuals.
