Google Accuses China of Blocking Gmail

Gmail not working? Chances are you might be in China.

Google is accusing the Chinese government of blocking its Gmail service in the country. The charge is the latest in a long-troubled relationship between the tech giant and the Asian country.

The Mountain View-based company is blaming the government for a recent outage where its Gmail service was not available in the country.

Google said it had no technical problems that could have led to the outage. Some analysts however believe it could be a sign that China is trying to tighten Internet security.

But conspiracy theorists may take it a step further. The outage comes a year after Google moved its Chinese language operations to Hong Kong to avoid government control.
