Google+ Is No Sausage ‘Fest

Women on the new social network Google+ -- you are not alone. There are more women on Google+ than previously thought, new statistics show.

A previous report said that the male-to-female ratio was 9:1, but two sources, including Findpeopleonplus.com and resident genealogist/amateur Google+ statistician Paul Allen, say the numbers are closer to 4:1 and 3:1 respectively. So, while the majority of users are male, women are far from token members. From Allen and his weird surname-based data and how numbers have changed by date:

7/4 77% Male, 23% Female
7/7 68.4% Male, 31.6% Female (after the user base had almost doubled)
7/14 66.4% Male, 33.6% Female

Google+ is quickly turning pink. . . . The poster of 18 men in a hot tub that has been passed around for the past week or two is not reflective of reality and is not what Google+ is going to end up being.

Allen's news was met with some interest, especially by women. "Hurray . . I'm not alone after all," wrote Dolly van Doo. "Woohoo! I was starting to think I was imagining being on Google+," wrote Mari Thomas.

We haven't noticed a dearth of women on Google+, but that could be because many of our friends are female. Perhaps you can do your part to end this sexual apartheid by sending a Google+ invitation to a female friend or acquaintance?
