Google Maps Adds Uber Integration

The latest version of Google Maps now allows users to order a ride via Uber, provided users already have the app installed on their smartphone, according to reports.

Users can choose to use Uber with a single tap that from Google Maps, according to PCWorld, and it marks the first time Google is using a third-party outside of public transportation.

Other updates to the software aren't as impressive, but does give distance and estimated arrival now on the screen, which lane drivers should use and alternate routes. Previously, the app had estimated arrive and route time, but wouldn't scroll both. The new update also gives time and distance via Uber as well as public transportation or walking. Not surprisingly, Uber is likely faster than both.

Perhaps this is a new way Google hopes to monetize Google Maps?
