Google Pages Are Active, But is Anyone Following?

Sixty-one percent of the world's top 100 brands have created Google+ pages, but is anyone really following them?

SEO firm BrightEdge made the report, which also stated that 94 percent of the top 100 brands were on Facebook, according to TechCrunch. The largest number of fans on Google? Google with 65,000 fans.

The problem is that Facebook has around 300 million Facebook fans compared to Google+'s 148,000, so why be on Google+? It seems that in Google search, Google+ brand pages appear in the top 12 Google search results as opposed to Facebook which is in the top 13 or 14.

So while Google+ may not garner loads of fans, it does ensure that a business will come up in listings on Google. That may be worth the price of admission alone.

Being on Google+ also means that businesses could be integrated into other products like Google Places and Maps, according to Mashable. Companies can't be complacent with just one social network -- they have to see the opportunities presented by others.
