NBC Universal's Syfy channel, known for its courting of the geek crowd, has ordered six episodes of a reality TV show that will follow 12 startups as they navigate a Silicon Valley startup accelerator.
The startups will be partaking in 500 Startups Accelerator and PCH International's Highway 1 program, according to TechCrunch. The show will focus on two startups each episodes and film the "ups and downs" of trying to create a winning product and get venture capital funds. The show is expected to start filming next year with the premiere following like in fall.
Right now the application process is just starting, so it's likely that present-day startups could get picked up for the show. Dave McClure, founder of 500 startups, has been working with Zero Point Zero Production for the last two years to get the show off the ground. "We’re not making The Real Housewives of Silicon Valley," he told TechCrunch. "We have a fair shot to tell the real story and a fair shot to give these companies national exposure.”
