Research in Motion's so called iPad killer is dying a premature death on Sprint's network.
Sprint Nextel has pulled the plug on its support for RIM's PlayBook tablet that would have run on the carrier's 4G network.
“We apologize for any inconvenience but the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook Tablet that was announced in January for summer availability will no longer be coming to the Sprint network,” a Sprint representative told Wired.com in a statement. “This was a mutual decision between Sprint and RIM.”
The carrier was forced to end the relationship because of a lack of demand by business customers. The move also leaves the PlayBook without a U.S. carrier.
Verizon and AT&T are both selling Apple's popular iPad 2.
Without carrier support, RIM will only be able to sell 3G versions of the tablet that had such high expectations ahead of its release but failed to receive positive reviews.
