Jim Jones Headlines Mezzanine

Rapper's rare Northern California show

The name Jim Jones brings up stirring memories of a murderous cult leader here in San Francisco, something the New York-based rapper of the same name probably doesn't have to encounter too much in his circles.

The MC is best known for his work as part of the Dipset crew alongside the likes of Cam'ron and Juelz Santana, and was introduced to a whole new audience as part of the first season of the VH1 reality series Love and Hip-Hop and the spinoff Chrissy & Mr. Jones, in which he stars with his fiancé. But the television programs have only served to emphasize that Jones shies away from the spotlight in favor of treading below the radar both personally and musically. His songs have explored both urban and paranormal underbellies, running the gamut between tales of the Harlem drug game and explorations into the realm of vampires.

Jones is set to stop in San Francisco for a rare show at Mezzanine on March 16; Oakland's DJ Juice spins tunes to open the evening.
