Barry Zito Is the Bay Area's Highest Paid Athlete

The list of the highest paid 50 athletes in the country is out and the Bay Area is not well represented.

Not a single player from the San Francisco 49ers, the Oakland Raiders, A's or Golden State Warriors made the list -- not surprisingly.

The Bay Area's lone representative on the annual list of the 50 highest paid athletes list comes from the San Francisco Giants.

But it's not ace Tim Lincecum or Matt Cain and it's not even super youngster Buster Posey. Instead the highest paid athlete in the Bay Area is Giants' Barry Zito.

The former Cy Young Award winner is No. 33 on the list at a whopping $18.5 million salary and another $100,000 in endorsements.

The combined salaries of the Giants' three big pitchers -- Lincecum, Cain and Jonathan Sanchez -- combined is just slightly over Zito's salary.

Zito is joined on the 2011 list by 19 NBA players, 17 MLB players, eight members of the NFL, three NASCAR drivers and three golfers.
