Buster Posey To Catch All Weekend

Friday night -- Opening Day for the Giants in Arizona --  will represent the first regular season action for Buster Posey since his season-ending injury against the Marlins in 2011.

And it's likely, according to Bruce Bochy appearing on KNBR, that Posey will catch all the weekend games. Bochy indicated, via Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, that Posey will catch Tim Lincecum Friday, Madison Bumgarner on Saturday and Matt Cain on Sunday.

Hector Sanchez will catch Barry Zito on Monday against Colorado, but that's been the plan all along.

"At this point we'll just check on him after games and see how he feels," Bochy said earlier this week via Chris Haft of MLB.com. "If he comes out of these games fine, we'll want him out there every game of this series."

In other words, if things go well on Friday night and Posey catches Tim Lincecum and doesn't feel too much soreness or any pain later that evening or on Saturday morning, he'll get to catch again on Saturday, when Madison Bumgarner squares off against Daniel Hudson in the second game of the series.

And the same thing will happen if Posey feels good on Sunday.

It's possible that if Posey's sore or aching or there's a huge concern about his general health that Bochy could end up yanking him for Sanchez and giving Posey multiple days of rest.

That's the smart move, mainly because there's no real reason to push him too much this early in his comeback. Posey making it healthy through the whole season is the biggest goal here, not getting early-season production from the backstop position.

Getting Buster through this weekend in good shape would be a great sign.
