Buster Posey Wins Silver Slugger Award

Buster Posey won his first Silver Slugger Award on Thursday night, MLB announced.

Buster Posey's going to need a bigger bookshelf.

The All-Star catcher, coming off a batting title and eying an MVP, picked up another award on Thursday night as Major League Baseball announced he'd won the Silver Slugger award for National League catcher.

It's Posey's first Silver Slugger award following his September nomination, when he was nominated along with fellow Giant and pitcher Matt Cain. Also nominated was Marco Scutaro, although Scutaro was actually nominated when he was a member of the Rockies.

When you compare his stats with other catchers, it's not much of a contest. Yadier Molina is close, but Posey clearly dominated at the position.

The last member of the Giants to win the Silver Slugger Award was Barry Bonds in 2004.
