Giants Return Home, Continue Slide With Loss to Reds

The first game at AT&T Park in over two weeks turned into a Home Run Derby as the Reds beat Jake Peavy and the Giants 7-5 Monday night.

Back home after a 1-7 road trip, the Giants were out-homered 3-2 by the Reds, with Jay Bruce providing two two-run home runs.

Eugenio Suarez accounted for the other two-run shot for the Reds. All three homers came off Peavy, who gave up four hits and six earned runs in five innings. He walked two and struck out five.

The Giants got on the board in the first inning when Buster Posey singled to right, plating Denard Span.

But Cincinnati jumped on Peavy in the fourth when Bruce and Suarez homered to give the Reds a 4-1 lead.

Mired in a 2-for-33 slump to start the second half, Brandon Belt cut the deficit to 4-3 with a two-run homer to left center off Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani in the fourth.

One inning later, Angel Pagan gave the Giants the lead with a two-run home run of his own.

The Reds recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth when Bruce clubbed his second homer of the night. Cincinnati tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth by successfully executing a suicide squeeze against Hunter Strickland. Billy Hamilton laid down the bunt and Suarez scored.
