MILWAUKEE - The Giants and Brewers played way past the four-hour mark on Thursday afternoon. Somehow the visiting team managed to pack a near-win, near-loss, and a win into about 30 minutes of action.
The Giants did a lot right while handing a two-run lead to Mark Melancon. The closer blew it, and only escaped a loss because a line drive to third was snared by a leaping Eduardo Nuñez. The lineup responded by scoring four in the top of the 10th for a 9-5 victory.
Here are five things to know from the final day of a rough road trip …
-- Melancon, who had not pitched in a save opportunity since May 27, gave up a leadoff homer to Eric Sogard. A double by Jesus Aguilar put two in scoring position with no outs and Travis Shaw's single tied the game. Nuñez's grab of a liner headed to left saved the game once, and Melancon was able to get out of the jam.
--- The Statcast numbers on Austin Slater's first career homer: 461 feet, 111 mph exit velocity. If those numbers hold up, it's the longest homer of the season by the Giants, and the second-longest in the last three seasons.
--- Nick Hundley has 11 doubles, so the bat is what was expected, but his throwing has been an issue all year and it cost the Giants a run in the fifth. With two outs, both runners took off, and Hundley's throw to third sailed into left field. Travis Shaw, the man trying to steal third, jogged home to tie the game. Hundley has allowed 14 stolen bases on 17 attempts.

--- Josh Osich started throwing a curveball in April to get hitters off his harder offerings, and it's become a nice weapon for him against lefties. Osich froze Eric Thames to end the sixth and strand a runner.
--- Johnny Cueto had his first four-walk game of the season and just his third with the Giants. He had walked just four total batters in his previous four starts.
