Sanchez Likely Out for Season

San Francisco Giants left-hander Jonathan Sanchez might be done for the season because of a left ankle sprain that isn't improving.

Sanchez rolled his ankle fielding a bunt from Jose Costanza on Aug. 16. The Atlanta Braves went on to win that game in walk-off fashion.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Sanchez has not made progress, more bad injury news for the reigning World Series champions.

Sanchez was the team's most reliable starter down the stretch in 2010, and the winning pitcher on the season's final day when the club clinched its first playoff berth since 2003.

Sanchez last threw Aug. 19 at Houston to see whether he could start two days later, but that didn't happen.

He was chosen in the 27th round of the 2004 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants.
