Camp Out in Fairytale Town

STORIES 'N STARS: Being just a little kid, and going to a place called Fairytale Town, a place your parents probably went to, and your grandparents probably went to, must be nearly overwhelming in its sheer great-o-sity. We can't imagine being three or four and running inside an oversized shoe or around a castle. But even better than all that? Spending the night in that place. Right? We feel like we need to re-say that, only with more emphasis. Spending. The. Night. In. That. Place. What a magical thing, to set up a tent and hear stories and sleep, if not under the stars, then star-adjacent. And kidlets and their grown-ups will get that chance at Sacramento's own Fairytale Town on Friday, June 24.

TENTS 'N TALES: Tickets run from $20 to $30, and there are several activities planned. Scavenger hunt? Bedtime story? Check and check. If you can't make it for the family camp-out, make a date this summer to visit the longtime Sacramento play park. It opened just after Disneyland, and still keeps the younger tots happy. It keeps us happy, because so many sweet mid-century spots fell over the decades. Not Fairytale Town, though. Perhaps there is a bit of magic in its very moniker (and a lot of people who cared over the years, too).
