BRICKS AT THE WAVES: When late July arrives families get serious about not being serious. School is just a few weeks away in some parts of the state -- can that really be? -- and if a road trip has been put off, it must be put on, asap, if it is to happen at all. And if you'll be at Lake Tahoe any time between Wednesday, July 25 and Sept. 4, and you happen to be a buff of small, interlocking, highly colorful plastic bricks, make for Heavenly Village. LEGO is setting up a whole "Brickation" area there. If you think this means a card table with a few bricks strewn across the top, it's more: "life-size LEGO models" will be on display for photos, a LEGO Race Ramp'll be in the house, and, yep, a Lake Tahoe model will assembled out of the famous rectangles. Bet it will draw LEGO enthusiasts in addition to kids and their parents looking to chill out for an hour after a morning on the lake.
OTHER TAHOE TO-DOS: If you do plan for making for the largest alpine lake on the continent before school begins again, eye the other stuff going around the big pines. There are free Thursday night outdoor movies, the Shakespeare Festival, and several music events.
