Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance

STUNNING SETTING: There are a number of concours d'elegances that happen around the country each year. Most have interesting locations -- say, a street of tony shops, or a tree-shaded park -- but there isn't a location on the planet that can truly go up against the eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach. We apologize for the need to be emphatic on this point, and we raise a flute to all other locations everywhere, but Pebble Beach's famed eighteenth hole, is, well. Pebble Beach's eighteenth hole. And that's where some 200 exquisite, hood-ornament'd, gleamy dream machines will pull to a stop on Sunday, Aug. 21.

2011 HIGHLIGHTS: There are several things to get all jazzed about this year, which happens to be the 60th anniversary of the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. Italian motorcycles will be on display, as will the Ferrari 250 GTO. But we're most chuffed about the Edwardian Rolls Royce Silver Ghosts. Don't you want to wear a taffeta stole while walking around one? We can't even imagine the frouncy pants outfit we'd need to even sit inside. A general admission, in advance, to the concours is $175. You'll want to eye all the doings happening around the eighteenth fairway before turning your own motorcar toward Pebble Beach. There's a whole rumble seat worth of to-dos.
