Adventure Overnight: Safari West Tents Reopen

The preserve had briefly shuttered following the fall fire; now, guests can again bed down at the Santa Rosa destination.

SOMETIMES, GETTING GOING, all at once, just isn't in the cards, nor is it even all that wise. We've all had experiences where revving up involves taking events and circumstances as they come, each day, a stage at a time, all to build to the ultimate goal we have in mind. Such is the case at Safari West, in Santa Rosa. The Tubbs Fire famously drew close, very close, to the animal preserve in the fall, but the 400-acre spread ultimately weathered the devastating incident, thanks to first responders as well as quick-thinking staffers and owner Peter Lang. Still, the animal preserve remain shuttered as those who work there attended their own lives — some staffers lost homes — and cared for the giraffes and zebras and the hundreds of other beautiful residents of Safari West. The park reopened to guests just ahead of Thanksgiving 2017, but the lodging on the grounds remained closed. MARCH 1, 2018: No, that isn't the first day of spring, but there's something springlike in beginning again at the beginning of March, which does have an air of renewal and new growth to it.
