PEDAL ON, FUNDRAISING PEOPLE: There are myriad, joyful-of-heart ways to showing your support for Special Olympics Northern California. You can dash into a chilly lake in the early springtime, or even earlier, depending on the location, as part of a Polar Plunge-type event. You can volunteer with the esteemed organization, which provides, through both training and competition, the chance for "...all athletes of all ability levels the chance to play and be a part of a team." Donating on the site? That can happen, too, of course, and is an essential part of the whole. But if you want to be a part of a spirited outing, finding a fundraiser is the route to take (and, yep, those Polar Plunges count). Now that the season for chilly H2O splashing has wrapped, at least for several months, what else can you sign up for? Look to Martinez Waterfront Park, on Saturday, June 10, for a double-up delight of a give-back happening, one that includes both pedal-fun action and quality foamage of the sippable sort. It's the...

8TH ANNUAL BIKE THE BRIDGES & BREWFEST, and it will include a variety of ride lengths, from 25 miles to a century. You will be crossing some spans, as the name suggests — greetings to you, Carquinez Bridge and Benicia Bridge, too — and you'll be able to partake in the after-the-ride BrewFest back at the park. Will a barbecue buffet be the savory complement to the suds scene? Oh yes, and food trucks'll be at the ready, too. Your registration kicks off at $55, and does include that barbecue buffet, and you'll be able to purchase a discounted beer ticket (that'll be $15, with your entry). Special Olympics Northern California, which is behind a host of annual sporting events and training opportunities for over 21,000 athletes, is "...committed to improving the overall health and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities through Healthy Athletes events, offering screenings and services free of charge." If you want to back Special Olympics Northern California on this important mission, join the bike ride, donate, or look to a future fundraiser, like those frosty 'n fun Polar Plunges when winter meets spring.
