Gold Country Creative: ARTober in Oakhurst

Planning a Yosemite adventure in October? There's so much art to soak up at this glorious gateway to the national park.

HAVING A SINGLE FEATHER... in your cap? That's plenty to be chuffed about in this world. After all, if you have one shining talent, or admirable attribute, or something special in your favor, then you really do possess quite the bounty. But what if you happened to be a pretty Gold Country town, right on storied Highway 49, and you also happened to be one of the gateway places for Yosemite National Park? And, adding to all of that, you also possessed quite the artistic vibe, so much so that an entire month was saved for some of your more visual and uplifting offerings? Well, then, you'd probably be Oakhurst, a golden destination that has both Big Y-close cred and lots of art cool to go around. And that art cool is on display, throughout the month of October, or should we say...

ARTOBER: That's the name for the second annual event, one that encompasses a number of different events. Events like the Sierra Art Trails Open Studio Tour, which pops up over the first weekend of the month with "... a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to see fine arts and fine crafts in the making, and to meet and purchase works directly from the people who create them." A Fall Festival, Chalk Out, some Shakespeare magic, and other happenings, one involving the hiding and finding of a chainsaw-carved bear, are also afoot, so consider stopping by the town during a Yosemite or Gold Country road trip.
