SLO Soiree: Roll Out the Barrels

The new 4x2 Passports, giving attendees eight tastes over two days, is one highlight.

THREE-DAY WINE EVENTS... are the stuff of getaway-having, raise-the-roof legend come summertime, but many of our state's biggest bashes don't wait for an actual three-dayer to come along. One of the ripest and revelry-est on the beverage-based calendar has been around for over a quarter century, plus a couple of years, and it is, quite literally, one of the toasts of the Central Coast wine calendar. JUNE 22 THROUGH 24, and the "variety of events" on the pinot-perfect calendar are plentiful. The Thursday night soiree, Barrels in the Plaza, takes place on the grounds of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, but the pretty and historic property isn't the only centerpiece. 4x2 PASSPORT EXPERIENCE: The "4" in that equation? That means that a passport holder may choose a quartet of wineries on June 23, and then another quartet on June 24, to try (that's the "2" in the name — 2 days). It's a separate ticket from Barrels in the Plaza, but there is an early-bird way to bundle both and save ahead of May 31. And if you're staying for two nights in a row in the area around the time of Roll Out the Barrels? Best look into this lodging promotion faster than a barrel can roll.
