Safari Nights: New at The Living Desert

The evening fun kicks off in September at the Palm Desert animal park.

SUMMERTIME AND SATURDAY NIGHTS? It's a popular pairing we've all seen thrive over the years. A special themed party might be planned for the local park, or a late-night happening at the neighborhood pool, or an outdoor concert at the beach. But those summer Saturday nights, whatever is festively filling them up, do have a way of suddenly stopping when September arrives. Perhaps one reason that they don't extend into autumn is that the weather is just a tad chillier after sundown. That, however, does not apply in the desert, where late-summer evenings remain quite warm and go-out-able. With that in mind, The Living Desert will be hosting an inaugural event, one that gives those human who love the animal park a chance to enjoy it on a September Saturday night, in the hours when the destination is typically closed. There are five Saturdays in September, do note, so if you want to experience...

SAFARI NIGHTS, all you'll need to do is plan your desert getaway and pick the evening that best suits you. Each night on the schedule shall rock a different vibe —  Tacos and Tequila night is Sept. 2, Movie Night is Sept. 9, Nocturnal Animal Night is Sept. 16, there's another Movie Night on Sept. 23, and Oktoberfest rounds it all out on Sept. 30 — but the constant factor will be critter-cool to-dos. You might join a search for scorpions, or stare up at the stars at an astronomy station, or dance to the live tunes. There shall be specialty cocktails, and food for sale, too. Summer-style Saturday nights continue, even into early fall, at the Palm Desert animal park, and joining a little post-sunset learning and celebrating is as easy as heading to the park and paying admission. And that admission? It's $12 for general, $8 for kids ages 3 to 12.
