Spend a ‘Day in the Country' in Los Olivos

Leg it around the lovely wine country town, all while soaking up flavors, sights, and good vibes.

FALL FESTIVALS... come in many varieties, with pumpkin-oriented outings taking a prominent place on the go-out, have-fun calendar. But there are other larks that happen in October, and while they have a certain autumnal mellowness, they're more about the community, about food and wine and shopping, than the hallmarks of the haunting season. One darling example, autumn after autumn, may be found in Los Olivos, that Santa Ynez Valley village that's known for its walkability, its rustic charms, its tasting rooms, and its laid-back spirit. That spirit is on delightful display when Day in the Country trots back around, bringing with it a number of stroll-around, soak-in-the-small-town-a-tude pleasures. The 2018 date is on...

SATURDAY, OCT. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a host of happy (but ultimately relaxed) happenings will fill the schedule. It is, after all, a celebration devoted to "... country living the way it used to be in simpler times," so the no-rush, no-fuss vibe is high. It's the town flagpole's centennial, and there'll be cake to enjoy, right at its base, for starters. A family fun run (yep, pups are welcome), a classic small-town parade, a tractor show, and more goings-on are all part of the free gatherings. (That's right, there's no admission booth charging you entry.) Do bring money if you'd like to pack a bottle of wine or six for home, or you're hoping to have lunch at one of the town's notable restaurants.

VINTAGE VIVACIOUS: Longing for some countrified nostalgia in these go, go, go times? Find it, in Los Olivos, on the 20th of October.
