In honor of Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month, NBC Bay Area teamed with Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) and Asian Pacific Fund to celebrate community leaders and young voices of the APA community in the annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Community Luncheon on May 17.
The luncheon honored the winners from Asian Pacific Fund's Growing Up Asian in America contest and local heroes of Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI). Select youth from the group of 40 winners included Hannah Chan, Albert Chang-Yoo, Sachi Hannah, Oreli Horta Ho, Emma Y. Li, Allison Ngoc Van Nguyen and Thanhthanh Nguyen, participated in the NBC Bay Area luncheon.
NBC Bay Area's very own Robert Handa, Janelle Wang, Mike Inouye and Vicky Nguyen had the honor of introducing AACI’s four Asian Pacific American Community Heroes. These honorees represent the impact and dedication that diverse API communities bring to the Bay Area local community. Among these honorees are Anna Wang, a long-time advocate for families of children with special needs, Caleb Jo, a rising Asian American filmmaker and actor, Connie Young Yu, a trail-blazing Chinese American writer, historian, and lecturer who was featured on NBC’s Bay Area Revelations: Asian American Pioneers, and Protima Pandey, a dedicated lawyer and leading voice for domestic violence survivor issues and gender justice.
Thank you to our young leaders and community honorees for inspiring and being the voice for Asian Pacific Americans #APAHM
