Jazz in the Neighborhood

Jazz in the Neighborhood presents jazz concerts at local Bay Area venues from Santa Rosa to San Jose. Since its start in 2013, Jazz in the Neighborhood has been committed to hosting mostly free events and never turning anyone away if they can’t pay.

In presenting these events, over 300 of the Bay Area’s top jazz musicians have received guaranteed payment for their performances.

The not-for-profit organization presents affordable concerts, pays musicians a guaranteed wage and supports the work of established and aspiring jazz artists in the Bay Area.

Artists like The Alaya Project are an example of Jazz in the Neighborhood’s impact on local and emerging artists. Born in the cultural bastion of Oakland, Alaya explores new textures and perspectives built over two decades of friendship, dialogue and musical immersion across genres and continents.

The driving, hybrid grooves of Indian percussionist and drummer, Rohan Krishnamurthy, the soulful ragas and melodies of Prasant Radhakrishnan on saxophone and the harmonic bedrock of Colin Hogan on piano and accordion come together to embody the permanence of a changing soundscape.
