Valor Games Far West 2017

Join the fifth annual Valor Games Far West event June 2-5 on Coast Guard Island in Alameda, CA. This is the fifth year of the event and the fourth year of partnership with the US Coast Guard.

This year’s event hosts 110 active military and veteran athletes who will compete in Archery, Biatholn, Cycling, Field, Paratriathlon, Power Lifting, Swimming, and Rowing apart of the Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. Also, there will be Wheelchair Basketball, Badminton, Boccia, and Wheelchair Tennis sports clinics.

Grant funding for this event is awarded by the US Department of Veteran Affairs. The grant provides lodging and meals at no cost to the participants. Qualifying athletes include Veterans or active duty service members from any area with a disability. Those with the following physical disabilities are eligible to compete:  amputation, post-traumatic stress, spinal cord injuries, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, visual disabilities, and any disability recognized by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Major sponsors include: USAA Insurance, Dome Construction, Kaiser Permanente, Ability Center of Sacramento, Bank of the West, Dignity Memorial, Elks, Fremont Police Department, Hewlett Packard Enterprises, IBEW / NECA, Navy League.

The local organizing committee, the Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association has provided sport and recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities in the region for more than 40 years. Eight Paralympic sports clubs will manage the competition and meet the Veterans in their communities, engaging them for future opportunities to be active throughout the year.

The event kicks off at 3PM on Friday, June 2nd with an Opening Ceremony and Sports Clinics, a Resource Fair at 9AM on Saturday, June 3rd and the Competition concluding on Monday, June 5th.
