Liz is an award-winning investigative journalist with the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit. Her reporting holds the powerful accountable and has shaken up government agencies, exposed fraud and altered national policies.
Most recently, Liz’s investigation into the cleanup of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard halted one of the largest redevelopment projects in San Francisco’s history after she uncovered that a Navy contractor faked radiation tests. In 2015 she worked along with senior investigative reporter Vicky Nguyen to expose an outdated US Postal Service policy that instructed employees to call a supervisor instead of 911 in an emergency, which led to the death of a Bay Area employee. The investigation resulted in changes to US Postal policies nationwide.
Liz joined NBC Bay Area in 2012 as an investigative producer and four years later stepped back in front of the camera in her new role as reporter. Prior to NBC Bay Area she worked as a reporter in Reno and New York City. Her work has been published in the New York Observer Magazine and online at nytimes.com. She has contributed to documentaries produced by CNN and PBS.
During her career she has covered major news events including Hurricane Irene, the devastating Angora Fire in Tahoe, and the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York. She won multiple journalism awards for her investigation into uranium contamination on Navajo Nation. She interviewed President Obama while covering the 2008 campaign season.
Liz has earned several journalism awards for her investigative work including two National Headliner awards, a Society of Professional Journalists Award and a National Clarion award. She has also received four regional Emmy Awards, two regional Edward R. Murrow awards and two APTRA awards for excellence in categories that include investigative reporting and journalistic enterprise. She has twice been named an IRE finalist.
She graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism. She received her Master’s in Journalism from New York University.
Liz is a Bay Area native originally from Union City and now lives in the South Bay with her husband. When she’s not reporting she loves to spend time with her family and try new restaurants throughout the Bay Area. Liz is a huge fan of the arts and loves to see live theater in San Francisco and Berkeley. You might also catch her hiking in the Marin Headlands and Big Sur, or at a Warrior’s game.
