Better Business Bureau of Silicon Valley recognized budding film producers in its annual student video contest. In a ceremony at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, BBB CEO Steve McFarland presented prizes to the winning teams:

    • 1st Place: "BBB Start with Trust" - Nolan Glavis, Mackenzie Hearon, Zora Kreisher, Zachary Trebbien
    • 2nd Place: “Start with Trust BBB” - Odalys Castillo, Karen De La Cruz, Tania Piña, Edric Ruiz
    • 3rd Place: “The 3 B’s in Car Buying” - Jayda Aldrich, AJ Garcia, Miranda Hernandez Valdez, Hector Torres
“Teens will be consumers for a long time, and the video contest has been a great way to engage a whole new generation,” McFarland said. “The competition challenged them to communicate the value of resources like BBB and the importance of doing your homework before buying a product endorsed by a celebrity or picking a sushi restaurant.”
The theme of the contest was “Start With Trust,” and teams were tasked with using their creative skills to express what that phrase means to them – not only in everyday life but also when finding a business. Entries were judged for: production quality, creativity of message, representation of theme and number of votes received on social media.
“We can’t thank BBB enough for giving our students the opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned about using video to tell a story, generate emotion and compel action,” said Larkin Wilson, video instructor at Harbor High School. “The students really threw themselves into the challenge and their entries showed it.”
The first place team received a cash prize of $400, second place received $200 and third place received $100. BBB also donated $2,000 to Harbor High School to be used to purchase video equipment and technology.
