This year, Rubicon is continuing to do something special: celebrating the community leaders who have made real change happen - all while demonstrating Rubicon's core values of hope, humility and justice for all.
The 2019 Annual Values Awards will be given to State Senator Nancy Skinner for her pioneering social justice work and steadfast advocacy on behalf of the community.
Her leadership has propelled criminal justice reform to the top of the legislative agenda in California and has brought forth concrete changes that have moved us closer to an East Bay without poverty.
In 2018 alone, Senator Skinner authored successful legislation to increase police transparency and expand affordable housing, and repealed an unjust piece of the criminal code that contributed to mass incarceration. She also provided key votes for "Ban the Box" and bail reform, and has been an outspoken advocate for environmental justice.
