Growing Up Asian in America 2018 Awards Ceremony

    (Published Tuesday, May 8, 2018)

This year’s contest brought in nearly 1000 art, essay, and video entries from Bay Area kindergarten through 12th grade students.

In celebration of the Asian Pacific Fund’s 25th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the theme, “My Hope for the Future,” asked students to share aspirations and dreams for their own future, the future of their community or the future of the world. They revealed issues they were concerned about and provided so many creative solutions on how to resolve them.
The top forty winners represent the very best of the inspiring creativity displayed by our youth. Speaking of inspiring, did everyone get to see the amazing exhibit of artwork and essay excerpts displayed outside Samsung Hall? If you missed it, be sure to check it out after the awards program. We’ve also created beautiful commemorative posters that have been sent to over two hundred libraries throughout the Bay Area to display during the month of May, in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
NBC is also running PSA’s and posting winning entries via social media, so be sure to follow us! In addition, today’s awards ceremony will be featured in tonight’s newscast (barring any breaking news!) and a few winners will be interviewed on my show, Asian Pacific America with Robert Handa. Set your DVR for Sundays 5:30AM NBC Bay Area, channel 11 or cable channel 3, and at 6:00 PM on COZI TV, channel 186. [Feel free to add more info.]
