Chinese “Life Enrichment” Graduation

Celebrate the Life Enrichment Graduation of the Chinese Body, Mind & Soul Campaign with Chinatown Public Health Center, San Francisco Department of Public Health and San Francisco Evangelical Free Church. On Monday, May 9, 2016, The Life Enrichment Graduation Ceremony at San Francisco Evangelical Free Church will be honoring the special graduates for their continued learning in “Life Enrichment”. With the help of the Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Chinese Project, Chinatown Public Health Center, and the San Francisco Evangelical Free Church sponsored a Free 9 month series of weekly Life Enrichment Workshops from September 2015 to May 2016. The Life Enrichment Workshops are part of the Chinese Body, Mind & Soul campaign. These workshops have 3 components: Yijin exercise, nutrition education, food tastings and life enrichment talks with topics that address cultural and mental health issues. This graduation ceremony will celebrate the newly acquired nutrition and physical activity knowledge and behavioral changes the students have made.

“Life Enrichment” is a series of free weekly workshops of the Chinese Body, Mind & Soul Campaign. These weekly workshops are designed to meet the needs of low-income Chinese immigrants who face challenges adapting to their new environments in the U.S. The “Life Enrichment” classes include Yijin exercises, nutrition education, food tastings and life enrichment talks with topics that address cultural and mental health issues. Workshop participants are empowered with nine skills where they learn to: choose a healthy plate; eat a balanced meal plan; read food labels; consume more fruits and vegetables; choose healthy drinks and snacks; healthy cooking skills; portion control; and how to increase physical activity.
