Special Olympics Polar and Puppy Plunge

Special Olympics Northern California (SONC) will host the 2019 Santa Cruz Polar Plunge and Puppy Plunge fundraiser.

The Polar Plunge invites brave residents and their dogs to take a chilly winter dive into the ocean to raise money and awareness for SONC. The family-friendly event will include food and drinks, festivities, awards, raffles, games and meet-and-greets with members of local law enforcement – departments that have chosen Special Olympics as their charity of choice.

Participants must raise a minimum of $125 to take the Plunge and enjoy the full festivities, which include an official Polar Plunge long-sleeve T-shirt. For $15 extra, plungers are welcome to take the dive with their dog and enjoy furry-friendly activities. Additional fundraising incentives are available at different monetary levels. Guests are invited to watch their friends or family take the Plunge and may enjoy the pre-plunge festivities for an additional cost.

This year’s theme is “Plunge with a Purpose” – focusing on SONC’s mission of promoting inclusion, empowering people with disabilities and helping to put an end to bullying. Proceeds from the Santa Cruz Polar Plunge benefit SONC to offer year-round training and competitions in 14 different sports, schools programs and health resources all completely free of charge to more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the region.
