National Ice Cream Day Inspires San Francisco Festival

Sunday's National Ice Cream Day Festival at SoMa StrEat Food Park in San Francisco will feature numerous independent frozen dessert specialists and unique collaborations.

Expected highlights will come from Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream, which has three locations in San Francisco, is working with Haight eatery and food truck Bacon Bacon to offer a "That's That," a play on the It's-It ice cream sandwich with a bacon chocolate chip cookie, chocolate ice cream and a dark chocolate dip.

Longtime family-owned Mitchell's Ice Cream plans to offer ice cream floats made with real beer; adults will have a choice between Buzzerkeley Belgian Strong Pale Ale with peach ice cream or Oaktown Brown Ale with espresso toffee.

Lickers will also be able to preview the wares of new Tenderloin scoopery ShakeDown and Frozen Kuhsterd, a food truck that will soon open a brick and mortar shop in the Mission District with the help of a Kickstarter campaign.

Admission is free with RSVP for the first 200 attendees, with a $5 cover thereafter.
