Oakland Festival to Challenge Guinness World Record for Biggest ‘Soul Train' Line

Last June, 337 Oakland dancers boogied their way into the Guinness Book of World Records for executing the biggest "Soul Train" style dance line.

The record was soon bested by an Arizona with 425 people, so OakTrain, which was behind the first record-breaking line, is organizing a new chance to recapture the title.

Dancers are needed at the eighth annual Life Is Living Festival on Oct. 10 at DeFremery Park (1651 Adeline Street) in West Oakland. All are welcome, with the stipulation that registrants have enough stamina to dance for at least three hours. It costs $10 to participate and includes a T-shirt.

The "Soul Train" line was a consistent feature of the dance and music-driven television series that ran from 1971 to 2006, a time for stars-in-the-making to show up and show out.
