Lindsay Lohan says she doesn't know how CBS ever got the idea she was doing David Letterman's top ten list this week.

"I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman, I'm not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion ..." Lohan tweeted.

CBS announced on Tuesday the troubled actress was set to present the "Late Night" Top Ten List live via satellite from Los Angeles. It would have been her fifth appearance on the show, the last coming in May 2007.

After Lohan knocked the story down, Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, did some digging of its own and admitted it screwed up.

"Lindsay Lohan will not be delivering a Top Ten list on Thursday's Late Show with David Letterman, as had been previously announced," the company said in a statement. "We made a mistake. Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay's reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear."

Lohan's dad Michael was also among those who thought the "Mean Girls" actress was planning to appear on the show and said Wednesday he was upset the gig was canceled.

"It was set to be a funny, fun thing for Lindsay to do. It was going to be great," Michael Lohan told's Courtney Hazlett. "When Lindsay’s publicist Leslie Sloane and her manager Lou Taylor got wind of it, they decided for her that it was a bad idea. Leslie decides I don’t have authority to make these decisions, when in fact I have authority to do anything I want in my daughter’s life if it’s going to help her.”

TMZ reported Michael Lohan told the gossip site he was the one to book the appearance.

Letterman has not gone easy on the starlet. Last week he read the Top Ten Signs that "Lohan is out of control." They included: "Friends worry that her shoplifting is getting in the way of her drinking."
