2 Claim Share of Prince's Estate Through Half Brother

Two women filed affidavits of heirship to the late pop icon's estate Wednesday

Two women are claiming a share of Prince's estate based on a connection through a man widely described as Prince's half brother.

Brianna Nelson and Jeannine Halloran filed affidavits of heirship Wednesday in Carver County District Court. Nelson says her father was Prince's half brother, Duane Nelson Sr., which would make her Prince's niece.

Halloran is guardian to a minor whose initials are given only as V.N. She says Duane Nelson was V.N.'s grandfather, which would make her Prince's grandniece.

Duane Nelson has long been listed as Prince's half brother and once worked security for the megastar. But he wasn't listed as a relative in probate papers filed by Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson.

A probate judge is setting up a process to verify such claims.

Prince died April 21.
