Some are suggesting the concept of an alt-reality series where slavery still exists may make for a poor show.

The creators behind HBO series “Game of Thrones” have begun work on a new historical drama for the network called “Confederate.”

The show will take place in an alternative reality in which the southern states successfully seceded from the Union. HBO said the series “chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War.”

The announcement was not met without controversy, as droves of people took to the internet to mock the show's concept. One writer from the Daily Beast labeled the series “stupid as hell.”

HBO has not named an official release date or any other additional details.
