Jenny McCarthy Clarifies Her Charlie Sheen Comments, Says She ‘Takes Issue With the Double Standard'

Jenny McCarthy isn't taking back what she said about Charlie Sheen on her SiriusXM radio show, but she is clarifying it.

The "Dirty, Sexy, Funny" hostess turned to Twitter Thursday to expand on her sentiments regarding her former co-star's HIV-positive admission. During her radio show Wednesday, McCarthy slammed the entertainment industry for making actors disclose something as small as a cold sore, but allowed Sheen to keep his health issue a secret.

"If I have to be upfront about a herpe how could you not be upfront about HIV?" she asked. "Being on 'Two and a Half Men' myself and being on the show and playing a love interest you would think there would be some type of—I don't want to say—criminal issue but I don't even know how to feel about that. That could've been some valuable information."

In her statement on Twitter, McCarthy continued to insist that the double standard in Hollywood must come to an end.

"The point I raised about Charlie Sheen on my Sirius radio show, had nothing to do with whether or not I think he put me at risk. I simply took issue with the double standard in the industry," she wrote in a lengthy statement. "Every actress (and actor for that matter) must disclose hundreds of personal health matters before ever being allowed to set foot on a film set. Yet an actor who interacts physically with dozens of actresses in intimate scenes, is not required to disclose that he has HIV?"

McCarthy just wanted to make sure that both men and women are held to the same standard.

"I am very aware that HIV is not spread through kissing, but I also believe that if an actress has to disclose all of her business before kissing a male co-star, the actor should be required to disclose something as major as an HIV infection too. His disclosures in his personal life are none of my business, and are for him to reconcile with the people he interacted with privately. I am not one of them."

Donnie Wahlberg's wife's concern also stemmed from her son, Evan Asher, whom she wants to be around "forever."

"I'm STD-phobic because of all the stuff with Evan's health," she admitted on her radio show. In May 2007, McCarthy announced that her son Evan was diagnosed with autism in 2005.

Sheen admitted to being HIV-positive on the "Today" show, telling viewers that he was diagnosed about four years ago but only told those who needed to know.
